Based on the annotations of both the interacting genes and the resulting interaction network derived from STRING-DB, APOL6 appears to be associated with the STAT1 pathway, and indeed, APOL6 expression was strongly correlated with STAT1 in colon cancer (Spearman’s rank correlation 0.67, p-value 7.99e-54) and all other cancers with expression datasets greater than 400 patients after adjusting for tumor purity (Supplementary Table 4). This evidence concerns the gene APOL6 and colonic neoplasm.
