S100A4 and Obesity: Researchers have reported an induction of adiponectin by S100A4 in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes and in mice.18 Although there was no correlation between S100A4 and HMW‐Adp, it is plausible that the elevated S100A4 levels may play a beneficial role during early states of obesity in an attempt to balance the hyperinsulinaemia and the potential development of insulin resistance in this population in which obesity is only at the beginning of eliciting metabolic dysfunction.
