CASP3 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Oral administration of 10 mg/kg of EGCG from a presymptomatic stage delays the onset of the disease and prolongs useful life, in addition to increasing the number of motor neurons, decreasing the activation of the microglia, reducing the concentration of NF-kB, caspase-3 and iNOS in a transgenic mouse model of ALS (Xu et al., 2006) (Table 1).
