In a study that explored the effect of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) on diabetes-induced myocardial dysfunction, there was decreased ratio of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3-II (LC3II)-to-LC3I, reduced autophagy related 7 (ATG7) expression but increased sequestosome 1 (p62) levels, suggesting depressed autophagy in diabetes. Here, ALDH2 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
