SLC6A1 and Parkinson disease: The same year, Liu and coworkers documented that in a methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) mouse model of Parkinson’s disease, tiagabine pretreatment attenuates microglial activation, it confers partial protection on the nigrostriatal axis, and it alleviates motor deficits, but its protective function is abolished in GAT-1 knockout mice challenged with MPTP.
