Eleven of the 12 GWAS hits disappeared after adjusting for the expression of ALS2CR12, while half of the GWAS hits remained after adjusting for the expression of CASP8. Therefore, we believe that ALS2CR12 SNPs have a stronger effect and are associated with breast cancer through ALS2CR12 expression, while CASP8 remains an additional independent hit, consistent with the latest fine-mapping results (Lin et al., 2015). This evidence concerns the gene CASP8 and breast cancer.
