Although BM-PCa survival and proliferation in bone is heavily dependent on interactions with and activation of surrounding bone stromal cells, such as osteoclasts and osteoblasts; this is the first study to demonstrate a protective role for neutrophils against BM-PCa via STAT5-mediated PCa death, a phenotype that is altered as the tumor progresses. This evidence concerns the gene STAT5B and posterior cortical atrophy.
