Here we report, for the first time, information about SLC16A1 expression at both the mRNA and protein levels in a wide range of liver pathologies, i.e., of viral (hepatitis C), toxic (alcoholic liver disease), cholestatic (primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis), and inflammatory (autoimmune hepatitis) origin. Here, SLC16A1 is linked to hepatitis C virus infection.
