COIL and infection: Following inoculation with Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) or Tomato black ring virus (Secoviridae, Nepovirus), coilin-silenced plants do not show recovery from the infection, as opposed to wild-type plants; along the same lines, infection by Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) (Virgaviridae, Hordeovirus) and Tomato golden mosaic virus (Geminiviridae, Begomovirus) results in the development of stronger symptoms in coilin knocked-down plants.
