MAPT and neurodegenerative disease: Indeed, with increasing age, neuropathological changes become more common in cognitively healthy individuals also, suggesting that those who survive to higher ages may be increasingly selected to be resilient against the outcomes associated with such neuropathological changes.47,48,49,50,51 In a subsample of 40 centenarians of the 100-plus Study,52 we previously found that the levels of amyloid-β hyperphosphorylated tau and the levels of other neuropathological changes associated with neurodegenerative diseases varied widely among centenarians.
