Given the variety of roles played by VDAC1 in cell metabolism and apoptosis and its interaction with many partners [4,5,16,17,18,19,20], modulating such interactions by VDAC1-based peptides represents a potential therapeutic modality for treating metabolic disorders such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The gene discussed is VDAC1; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
