According to limited published data, almost 10%-15% of breast cancer occurrences are inherited; BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations are identified as the most common genetic alterations found in patients with breast cancer.28 Although testing for mutations in high-penetrance genes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, has become standard practice for patients with breast cancer in many places in Western countries,29 genetic screening is not routinely performed in most Jordanian hospitals. This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and breast cancer.
