ACE and Stroke: From 46 randomized clinical trials that examined the effect of the most commonly used antihypertension medications on preventing cardiovascular events, pooled results showed that ACE inhibitors, DH CCBs, and diuretics were reported to be similarly effective in preventing cardiovascular death (approximately 20% reduction compared with placebo), stroke (approximately 35% reduction compared with placebo), and overall cardiovascular events (approximately 30% reduction compared with placebo).
