AKT seems to be a key target in bilirubin activity in endothelial cells, and the ability to restore the AKT-eNOS pathway is involved in not only maintaining endothelial redox balance and cell survival but also pro-angiogenic signals (see section “Effects on Angiogenesis: Implications for Wound Healing, Vascular Dysfunction in Pregnancy and Tumor Growth”).
