TAp73 was shown to enhance the pentose phosphate pathway by directly activating the expression of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and promoted the Warburg effect via stimulating the expression of phosphofructokinase 1 (PFKL), both in human cancer cell lines as well as E1A+Ras-transformed mouse embryonic fibroblasts [27,28]. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is cancer.
