AQP-4 was found highly diffused in the parenchyma of post-mortem human AD brains and of a mouse model of AD (5xFAD), with particular localization near Aβ plaques rather than near vasculature (Smith et al., 2019), supporting the hypothesis that a change in AQP-4 localization might be a crucial aspect in AD neuropathology. The gene discussed is AQP4; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
