This finding is in keeping with previous reports showing an association between PD and altered expression of genes encoding proteins involved in mitochondrial homeostasis via quality control mechanisms [e.g., Parkin, phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN)-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1), DJ-1, leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2), ATPase 13A2, vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 35 (VPS35)) [37,42]. This evidence concerns the gene PTEN and Parkinson disease.
