Interestingly, we observed that the majority of subjects with PCOS had acanthosis nigricans (a clinical marker associated with IR - thickened, velvety, relatively darker areas of skin on the neck, armpit and in skin folds [43]) and had the A allele (either AT or AA) in the FTO rs9939609 polymorphism (Fig. 3). Here, FTO is linked to acanthosis nigricans.
