miR-187 expression in different human tumors is inconsistent, and its high expression promotes metastasis and invasion in breast cancer cells and is an independent risk factor for prognosis.[25] In ovarian cancer, its high expression can promote tumor progression in the early stage and inhibit epithelial-mesenchymal transition by acting on disability homolog 2 (DAB2) during the later stages.[26] This may indicate that miR-187 plays a dual role in tumorigenesis and progression.
