To investigate the potential interplay of compounds 1–6 with the Nrf2 cellular pathway, we first evaluated their ability to modulate the expression of the Nrf2 transcription factor and its negative regulator Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1), as well as its nuclear translocation and the activation of Nrf2 downstream target genes in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, a cell line commonly used to perform preliminary molecules screening and to dissect the underlying molecular mechanism (Narasimhan et al., 2012; Park et al., 2014; de Oliveira et al., 2019). Here, NFE2L2 is linked to neuroblastoma.
