Both in RCC tissues and RCC cell lines where miR-124 and miR-203 were downregulated, we observed reduced expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin (epithelial marker) as well as induced level of N-catenin and vimentin (mesenchymal markers), indicating that loss of both miRNAs significantly increased the migration and proliferation of ccRCC cells via regulating the key elements in EMT. This evidence concerns the gene VIM and nonpapillary renal cell carcinoma.
