Necroptosis is a programmed cell death, not involving caspase but the loss of plasma membrane integrity, through the receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase (RIPK-1) and mixed–lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL); it has been documented in SVD, via an elevated presence of RIPK-1 [341,342], but also recently in vascular disease [343]. The gene discussed is RIPK1; the disease is snowflake vitreoretinal degeneration.
