A total of 12 mRNA markers namely, MYC, Frizzled-10 (FZD10), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), caudal type homeobox-2 (CDX2), cluster of differentiation (CD)44, CD133, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin-19 (CK19), aldehyde dehydrogenase-1 (ALDH1), epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), and CD24, were selected as candidate biomarkers, based on their reported critical roles in CRC pathogenesis (Table 1) [27–35]. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
