By considering that irisin may reduce AGE-induced inflammation and endothelial dysfunction via inhibiting ROS-NLRP3 inflammasome signalling [8], the observed positive association between irisin and GA in our individuals reinforces the idea that the up-regulation of irisin also can be a mechanism to counteract the potential detrimental effects induced by AGE, such as inflammation and endothelial dysfunction [8]. The gene discussed is NLRP3; the disease is endothelial dysfunction.
