In the series by Sutton et al., conventional intensive AML treatments were administered to 15 of the 18 reported patients and 73% of them achieved complete remission (CR), without HIV-related opportunistic infections, suggesting that HIV infection did not significantly influence short-term AML outcomes, especially in cases with CD4+ T cell counts > 200/μL, good performance status and without pre-existing AIDS diagnosis [35].
