TN cells that are more resistant to HIV-1 infection than memory CD4+ T cells and as such contain lower levels of HIV-1 DNA (Venanzi Rullo et al., 2019), produce as many virions (Zerbato et al., 2019) or greater (Venanzi Rullo et al., 2019) amount of replication-competent HIV-1 than the memory CD4+ T cells following latency reversal with LRAs, indicating that TN cells are an important reservoir of latent HIV-1. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
