ASIC5 and cerebellar ataxia: As supported by results in Fig. 3 and Supplementary Fig. 5, ataxia in the Asic5 KO mouse is unlikely to be caused by broad changes in the abundance, locale and morphology of type II UBCs or gross changes in vestibulocerebellum development, as is thought to be the case for the reeler and Moonwalker mouse models14–16,35, indicating that changes in the electrical properties of type II UBCs are most likely at fault here.
