In line with this view and according to our prior results [22], in the present study we observed a marked increase in the levels of extracellular glutamate in the hippocampus of 3×Tg-AD mice, probably due to a reduced expression (~+35%) of a glial transporter mainly responsible for glutamate reuptake (GLT-1) observed in 3×Tg-AD mice at the same pathology stage as those used in the present study [22]. The gene discussed is SLC1A2; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
