Since MT3 was first identified as a neuronal growth inhibitory factor (GIF) that was deficient in brain extracts of Alzheimer’s disease18, altered MT3 expression has been also reported in various neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Down syndrome, and Creutzfeld-Jakob disease19. This evidence concerns the gene MT3 and Parkinson disease.
