BCL2 and glioma: Interestingly, transformed root extract of Leonurus sibiricus is rich in various polyphenolic compounds including VA as well as gentisic acid,4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 1,3-dicaffeoylquinic acid, and α-resorcylic acid, demonstrated an ability to inhibit proliferation and to induce apoptosis in glioma cells with these effects mediated via generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, enhancement of S and G2/M cell cycle phases, and changes in mRNA levels of apoptotic factors including Bax, Bcl-2, p53, Caspase-3, -8 and -9 [12].
