In a population-based cohort, we demonstrated that higher serum concentrations of leptin and lower serum concentrations of adiponectin were present in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM who were obese than in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM who had normal BMI; moreover, the adiponectin/leptin ratio was also lower in patients who were obese. Here, ADIPOQ is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
