FTO and metabolic syndrome: FTO rs9939609 is the strongest genetic variant associated with high body mass index (BMI), physical inactivity, and other abnormal metabolic parameters in various populations.[10–25] However, the relationship between rs9939609 and abnormal metabolic traits (i.e., elevated waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, blood pressure, and dyslipidemia) in some studies became non-significant after adjustment for BMI due to its mediating effects.[17,22,25–29]
