Recently, we demonstrated that PPARγ is phosphorylated at Ser273 by cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and this phosphorylation does not affect its adipogenic activity but instead dysregulates a specific set of genes, the expression of which is altered in obesity and/or type 2 diabetes [28,29]. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
