Zoccali et al. reported that plasma adiponectin levels were 2.5 times higher (p < 0.0001) among patients receiving hemodialysis (15.0 ± 7.7 μg/mL) than healthy controls (6.3 ± 2.0 μg/mL), but the adiponectin levels were significantly lower in the hemodialysis patients who developed cardiovascular complications than those who remained free of events [51].
