Since the findings with respect to the MBL and HLA alleles explained Cryptosporidium susceptibility only partially, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of cryptosporidiosis occurring in the first year of life using three existing birth cohorts of children in Dhaka, Bangladesh: the Performance of Rotavirus and Oral Polio Vaccines in Developing Countries (PROVIDE) study, the Dhaka Birth Cohort (DBC), and the Cryptosporidiosis Birth Cohort (CBC). Here, MBL2 is linked to cryptosporidiosis.
