Advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia have highlighted a role for placentally derived angiogenic factors as relevant disease biomarkers.9 Placental growth factor (PlGF) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, that in pregnancy is expressed predominantly in placental tissue, and correlates well with placental function. The gene discussed is PGF; the disease is preeclampsia.
