POMC and small cell lung carcinoma: Ectopic Cushing’s syndrome (ECS) occurs when malignant tumors, including small cell lung carcinoma, bronchial carcinoids, pancreatic carcinoids, thymic carcinoids, and pheochromocytoma, produce adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), ACTH precursors, or corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) outside the pituitary glands [1–3].
