ADH1B and cancer: In both papers the authors found a dysregulation in each step of ATRA biosynthesis with significant decreases in the mRNA levels of genes that encode the enzymes for oxidation/reduction of retinol to retinaldehyde (ADH1B, ADH1C, RDHL, AKR1B10 for both cancer types, RDH5 only in colorectal cancer, and ADH4, AKR1B, and RDH12 only in gastric cancer).
