WEE1 is upregulated in the setting of DNA damage (common in TP53mut HNSCC tumors) as part of the G2/M checkpoint, and TP53mut HNSCC are sensitive to WEE1 inhibition [29]; WEE1 activity both prolongs S phase [30] and delays the G2/M transition to allow DNA repair [31].
