In support of this hypothesis, we observed in CG macrophages that the rs1296028, one of 41 PD-associated loci interrogated in this analysis [23], affects the expression of the lysosomal protease Cathepsin B (CTSB) (P = 1.46 x 10−22; FDR = 1.31x10-18) in cis [39] (S7 Fig) and the expression of 16 genes in trans (P = 8.29 x 10−35; FDR = 9.48x10-28) (Fig 4A and 4B). This evidence concerns the gene CTSB and Parkinson disease.
