STIM1 is also expressed in heart muscle (Ohba et al., 2009; Domínguez-Rodríguez et al., 2015; Saliba et al., 2015; Zhao et al., 2015) and its cardiac-restricted ablation leads to ventricular dilatation (Collins et al., 2014), reduced left ventricular contractility, and decreased shortening of isolated cardiomyocytes (Parks et al., 2016).
