ATP2A2 and Fabry disease: In 2010, Kiss et al. examined differential expression of 118 genes in affected versus unaffected human bone tissue of women with FD and they detected marked differences in the transcription profile of 22 genes controlled via G-protein coupled pathways and the BMP cascade, as well as genes coding for extracellular matrix proteins, and in particular, upregulation of a novel gene, ATP2A2 (ATPase Sarcoplasmic/Endoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ Transporting 2), in FD bone [9].
