Considering that porins are highly immunogenic and protective vaccine candidates against Salmonella infections, our findings may lead to a better understanding of the basis of antigen specificity of Salmonella porins, which could be used to design tools for monitoring the porin-specific immune response after challenge or vaccination and could have direct implications for the rational design of a broad-spectrum vaccine against Salmonella. The gene discussed is VDAC1; the disease is Salmonella Infections.
