INS and Hyperglycemia: The non-overlapping signaling pathways and metabolic effects of ABA and insulin in the response of muscle and adipose tissue to glucose allow to hypothesize a role for ABA as the first hormonal response, capable of stimulating muscle and adipocyte glucose uptake and oxidative metabolism in the presence of low glucose availability; persistence of hyperglycemia, indicating glucose availability in excess of normal tissue requirements, then triggers insulin release, which is however moderated by the concomitant action of ABA.
