VEGFA and neoplasm: Recently, Etulain et al also showed that aspirin could block platelet‐induced angiogenesis in vitro independently of VEGF activity49 and Xu et al identified PGE2 as a soluble tumor‐derived angiogenic factor associated with VEGF‐independent angiogenesis in preclinical breast and colon cancer models.50 As we also observed significant reductions in colon PGE2 formation in aspirin‐treated animals, we speculate whether the aspirin‐induced suppression of tumor angiogenesis is attributed to the inhibition of the COX/PGE2 pathway in our models.
