In two different studies performed by two different groups, BALB/Xid mice were shown to be resistant to infection with L. infantum (same as L. chagasi), presenting lower splenomegaly and parasite loads in the spleen but not in the liver at final stages of infection (Gonzaga et al., 2015; Arcanjo et al., 2017b) probably due to lower IL-10 level in the spleen (Figure 2A) (Arcanjo et al., 2017b). The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is infection.
