ERBB2 and cancer: As NEAT1_1 and NEAT1_2 are transcribed from the same promoter, it is logical to hypothesize that the expression pattern of NEAT1_1 mirrors that of NEAT1_2. Importantly, by analyzing microarray data derived from probes binding to both NEAT1 isoforms and polyA-enriched RNA-sequencing data, we found that NEAT1_1 expression showed a different distribution among the PAM50 subtypes compared to NEAT1_2. Whereas NEAT1_2 is most highly expressed in HER2-enriched and luminal B cancers, NEAT1_1 expression is highest in ER-positive luminal A and luminal B cancers.
