Furthermore, AQP4 has been linked through various lines of evidence to epilepsy, e.g., the lack of aquaporin-4 water channels increased seizure threshold and seizure duration in mice [67,68] and AQP4 expression among chronic temporal lobe epilepsy patients is increased almost twofold in the hippocampus of the affected hemisphere compared to the contralateral hemisphere [69]. This evidence concerns the gene AQP4 and epilepsy.
