In breast cancer cells (MCF-7), HIF-1α and VEGF was decreased by EGCG in a dose-dependent manner (25, 50, 100 mg/L) [139], similarly to non-small lung cancer cells (A549), in which the catechin (25, 50, 100 μM) was able both to inhibit HIF-1α protein expression (stimulated by IGF-I, insulin growth factor-1, a growth hormone mediating cell growth) and the formation of capillary tube-like structures on a model of extracellular matrix [140]. This evidence concerns the gene HIF1A and breast cancer.
