Scattered blood vessels, cuffed by inflammatory cells were seen in the spinal cord and brain but it is unlikely that this indicates an immune-mediated role in the myelin vacuolation and demyelination as such blood vessel cuffing is also seen in SCD [6] and Alexander’s disease, a genetic disorder of myelin resulting from mutations in GFAP [45]. This evidence concerns the gene GFAP and Schnyder corneal dystrophy.
